Remove Dog Urine Effectively
Did your new puppy have an accident? Maybe
your senior dog left a surprise? Sooner or later as a dog
owner, you will be faced with removing dog urine. No matter how
good or well trained your dog is, accidents happen, dogs get
older and have to go out more frequently, illness comes along
and makes your furry friend more prone to have an accident.
Cleaning up dog urine just comes with the territory of having a
four legged doggie friend.
While dog urine is not the easiest thing to
clean up, knowing the right way to do it, and the right
cleaners to use, will make the job a lot easier.
Step One: Mop up any moisture as
soon as possible
If you catch a fresh spot that is still wet, use absorbent
towels to mop up as much of the urine as possible. The less
urine that is allowed to dry on the carpet, the easier it will
be to eliminate all urine smells.
If the spot has already dried it may be best
to use a blacklight to find where your dog urinated. It is
amazing how hard it can be to pin point where the smell is
originating withou using that blacklight.
Step Two: Clean up
The next step in removing the urine is to decide what to clean
the spot with. If the spot is new you MAY get away with
cleaning with a home made cleaner, (but we would not really
recommend that) mixing together 2 cups of 3% hydrogen peroxide,
2 teaspoons of liquid dish detergent, and 1 tsp of lemon
juice.
However, if the stain is large and has
soaked into the pad of your carpet, using a commercial cleaner
may be your best option to eliminate the dog urine stains and
urine smells. We recommend Anti Icky Poo.
Step
Three: De-Odorize.
OK, here is a really important part. Using a home made cleaner
may remove enough of the urine that it will not be detected by
you, or other humans. However, your dog will likely be able to
sense a trace of that urine with his acute sense of smell. Dogs
tend to mark on the same spot repeatedly, 9as will cats) if
they can sense ANY remains of that urine.Using an effective
cleaner such as Anti Icky Poo will result in much greater long
term success and will make your dog less likely to urinate on
the same spot again.
When you know the best ways of how to remove
dog urine there is no need to feel despair when your friend has
had an accident.
