Feline Urinary Tract
Disorder
Feline urinary tract disorder is a common cause for
inappropriate elimination.
The same way it is painful for a human to urinate while
having a UTI, it is painful for cats as well. When a cat
urinates in the litterbox and experiences pain, she can begin
to associate the litterbox with pain. That can lead to
urinating in various locations around the house.
If your cat is urinating outside the litterbox the number
one step to take is to have your veterinarian test your kitty
for a UTI. Not only is an untreated UTI possibly dangerous, it
causes a lot of pain and discomfort to your cat.
Some of the signs of a UTI is frequent urination, crying in
the litterbox, urinating outside litterbox, going to the
litterbox but unable to urinate (this is a medical emergency
-take your cat to the vet NOW! It can be a fatal blockage of
the urinary tract.)
Urinary tract problems are diet related. Kibble
is probably the largest contributor to feline urinary tract
disorders and should be discontinued if your cat gets a
UTI.
